We are pleased to announce that UK Agora are now proud restaurant sponsors of AFC Wimbledon.
Wimbledon have a remarkable history. They are most famed for their 1988 FA Cup final triumph against Liverpool FC, the then league champions. They were known for their no nonsense tackling. The likes of John Fashanu, Vinnie Jones and Dennis Wise gained a cult status as members of Wimbledon’s notorious Crazy Gang.
Leicester City FC are known as the modern day underdogs who won the Premier League using team spirit instead of vast sums of money. Wimbledon FC’s Crazy Gang were the original Anti-Establishment football club. In the end money overcame the owner’s loyalties to Wimbledon’s local fan base and the sad decision to move the club to Milton Keynes was made. In response to this Wimbledon’s fans collaborated together and formed AFC Wimbledon. They famously held their auditions for new players at Wimbledon Common!
AFC Wimbledon is the only club formed in the 21st Century to make it into the professional Football League. A feat which only took 9 years!
AFC Wimbledon are currently based in Kingston upon Thames. Recently Merton Council granted AFC Wimbledon planning permission to build a 20,000 seater stadium at their spiritual home, Plough Lane where the original Wimbledon was based.
UK Agora plans to work with AFC Wimbledon over the long term to provide exceptional wines at their current and future premises.
